What Is Going On In Oklahoma???
In a state commonly known for natural disasters coming from the sky, residents find themselves wondering what's going on underground.
The state of Oklahoma saw an unprecedented 20 small earthquakes hit on Tuesday. Fortunately none of the quakes led to any significant damage or injuries.
Now, if this was California, this wouldn't be news, but Oklahoma, that's unusual. Some experts believe that Oklahoma has a fairly seismic past, however, the state only saw an average of 2 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or above on the Richter Scale annually between 1978 and 2008. That number has been on the increase since 2008, with Tuesday's activity being the largest in recorded history.
While geologists aren't sure exactly what has led to the recent seismic increases, some experts have pointed out that the state's allowance of fracking might be a factor.
