How do you spend your day?

The average American spends 8.74 hours of the day sleeping, 5.26 of leisure and/or sports, and 3.46 hours of work-related activities. Personally, I spend the whole day making food and worrying what I am going to eat next. The Bureau of Labor Statistics came out with 7 charts based off of data from the American Time Use Survey. What is interesting about these charts is that it is not focused on the “average” American.

Working parents spend majority of their time working (well duh, we wouldn’t classify them as “working parents” if they didn’t work). Employed parents age of 25-54 of children under 18 spend 8.7 hours a day working and 7.7 hours of sleeping. The rest goes towards leisure and household activities, eating, caring for others, etc.

Sleeping just seems like a waste of time to me now.

What is really interesting is that the average American spends 19 minutes a day reading. Specifically, age group of 15 to 19 only spend around 4.2 minutes of reading on the weekends/holidays. Blame technologies these days? I should probably spend more time reading than sleeping now. Definitely check out these charts for more interesting and eye-opening facts about how not so “average” Americans spend their day.
