Redskins Lose Trademarks

Today the decision in the US patent office made to cancel a few of the Washington Redskins trademarks, on the grounds that 30% of Native American find the name offensive. In the world of sports several teams have Native American themes. The Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians are among the ones that come to my mind. As not being a Native American I can not speak to the feelings of natives about the above mentioned teams, but as I see it the name “Redskins” is clearly a name that is offensive to many. It’s in the best interest of Redskin Organization to move forward with a new name. It’s time to give the team a new start and move past the heat the franchise gets form the media.
