Think Your Internet Is Fast? NASA Has You Beat!

Tech junkies rejoiced when Google CFO Patrick Pichette announced in February that the tech giant has plans in the works to produce Internet infrastructure capable of 10 gigabits per second connections, ten times faster than current home Internet speeds. One group who won’t blink at the announcement is NASA.

A recent Wired article showcased NASA’s ESnet (short for Energy Science Network) and its whopping 91 gigabits per SECOND download power. That is the fastest internet connection ever reported! Researchers working on colossal projects, such as the Human Genome Project and the Large Hadron Collider, require these obscenely fast connections.

If you’re hoping to see NASA’s technology in your home computer any time soon, don’t hold your breath. The network is completely private, and NASA has no intention of changing that any time soon.
